Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club reopened its famed Golden Marsh Golf Course on Thursday, November 15. The $4.3M redesign began in April.
Bobby Weed, Architect, said, “This is a comprehensive update, resulting in a more natural, playable layout with greater variety and visual interest.” Originally designed by Joe Lee in 1984, this championship course has tropical charm, with swaying palms and grand sweeping vistas at every turn. Natural lakes and marshes that surround so many of the holes on this course add both an element of beauty and challenge to the course.
The redesign includes reconstructed green complexes, several greens with coquina boulder stacked walls, new bunkering, a new water-efficient irrigation system, the incorporation of coquina shell and pine straw that reduces acres of maintained turf and regrassing of the entire course.
Tim Powers, president of the Harbour Ridge Board of Directors, said: “Our members are looking forward to the re-opening and redesign of the course and we are excited to be enhancing the amenities and social experiences available here at Harbour Ridge, especially since the project will be completed without levying a membership assessment or incurring new long-term debt.”
The Golden Marsh joins the list of several Capital Improvement projects Harbour Ridge has made over the last three years, all without levying an assessment to the membership: The River Ridge 18-Hole Golf Course, also recently renovated, originally designed by Pete & P.B. Dye, the addition of a 22,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art fitness, spa and tennis center and the renovation of the 45,000 sq.ft. waterfront clubhouse.
