Recently, a group of a Harbour Ridge residents combined their eagerness to stay active with their compelling enthusiasm for their community to raise awareness for a unique cause. To Save the Chimps.

Yes, that’s right, chimpanzees. Residents took part in the 3rd Annual Chimpathon at the Save the Chimps Sanctuary located a few miles north in Fort Pierce. Racers ran their way through the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary, gaining access to the normally secluded and private animals.

“It was a beautiful day and a fabulous chance to see the sanctuary usually closed to outsiders,” said Harbour Ridge resident, Lynn Myers. “The Chimps were as excited to us as were to see them. We enjoyed the walk and the opportunity to raise money for a wonderful cause.”

Although it was a race for a good cause, it is still a friendly competition, and Harbour Ridge took home some hardware thanks to resident Jane Nartowt, who was an age group winner.
