The Treasure Coast is surrounded by natural lands and refuges that offer plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities; but Harbour Ridge stands out from the rest and is every nature lover’s dream. Just recently, this private community was recognized for 20 years of certification as an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary and even received the Outstanding Florida Community Award. Members of this community continue to cherish this nature sanctuary, whether it be on a walking trail or on the river. They even assist local wildlife services with conservation efforts, such as protecting and caring for on-site wildlife. At Harbour Ridge, Florida’s wildlife lives alongside humanity at its own pace.

The most prominent is the two-mile River Side Trail along the St. Lucie River. These paths are surrounded by wetlands and lakes, including scenic Mile Lake, that are bursting with active native wildlife.

3. A Preserve Within a Sanctuary

Very, very few communities can say they have an Eagle Preserve on their property and Harbour Ridge is one of them. This Audubon-certified preserve is of comprised of 35 acres within the Golden Marsh course, where two Southern Bald Eagles nested for many years and their nest is still intact.

4. Waterfront Clubhouse that Captures the Magic

The Clubhouse offers panoramic views of the St. Lucie River and is tucked under the large Spanish Oaks that gives residents the feeling of being outside while inside. While enjoying a sunset dinner, the nightly entertainment is often provided by the Harbour Ridge wildlife.

Members can play a round of golf alongside a sandhill crane as it strides across the green. Many of the fairways are surrounded by long freshwater lakes, which can be unfortunate for golfers, but an absolute joy for nature enthusiasts looking for wildlife. Both championship golf courses are even certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.

Everyone who’s visited the Treasure Coast can agree that it has some of the most amazing waterfront spots in town. With a location set among the St. Lucie River and the Atlantic Ocean, those who love the waterfront will love the Treasure Coast. One of the best places to see the waterfront is to dine at one of the local restaurants, many of them which are situated right on the St. Lucie River. Check out some of the best views from the restaurants below.

Kyle G’s

Part of Kyle G’s appeal is the lovely view of the Atlantic Ocean that sits right behind the restaurant. Diners enjoy watching the waves lap the shore and seeing boats go by. The views of the ocean here are hard to beat, as well as the delicious menu that features Center Cut Filet Mignon and Steamed Maine Lobster.

Stuart Boathouse

Stuart Boathouse is famous for many things, including its amazing happy hour, its great dishes, and it’s wonderful waterfront view. The Cannonball Shrimp Tacos with ginger aioli, as well as the prosciutto and goat cheese flatbread, reflect the restaurant’s creative atmosphere. Even better, the restaurant is right next to the Riverwalk Stage, meaning that diners can often catch dinner and a show.

Dolphin Bar & Shrimp House

The Dolphin Bar & Shrimp House is well known thanks to some fantastic food and an amazing view of the riverfront. The restaurant’s menu features fresh fish and classic steakhouse food, including it’s signature dish, Dolphin a la Dolphin. It’s best enjoyed with a table seat right by the Indian River Lagoon. The Happy Hour here is not to be missed!

Sailor’s Return

On the far east side of Downtown Stuart is Sailor’s Return, a lively and vibrant local restaurant with some of the best sights of the St. Lucie River. The menu is a classic mix of New England favorites, such as clam chowder, and coastal classics like coconut shrimp. A collection of drink specials and specialty martinis lets diners enjoy happy hour here, and the sight of the St. Lucie River rolling by adds to the scene. They regularly host live music here for entertainment as well.

The Treasure Coast is famous for it’s amazing views of the waterfront. However, few can beat the unparalleled views at the restaurants within Harbour Ridge, the Treasure Coast’s preferred golf and country club. The Club’s member-only restaurants such as the refined Riverview Dining Room and the classy-casual Dockside Pavilion serve up not only stellar dishes such as steaks and seafood, they also have the St. Lucie River as a backdrop. Emblematic of the Club’s waterfront lifestyle, the dining here is unmatched.

The restaurants aren’t the only way that the members of Harbour Ridge live their lives by the river. The Club’s marina hosts up to 98 slips, and its location allows boaters to get out on the St. Lucie River or the Atlantic Ocean within a short matter of time. For those hoping to stay closer to shore, the Waterfront Department is more than happy to rent out kayaks and paddleboards to explore the mangrove trails that wind around the Club.

It’s the time of year when thoughts turn to warm beaches and spending tropical summer evenings dancing the night away. It’s times like this when people are looking to head to places like Florida’s Treasure Coast. This East Coast location may seem quiet at first, but it has a lifestyle unlike any other town in the tropics. Check out these five reasons why you’ll want to be here right now – pick your favorite and come on down.

History

Nowhere else embraces its history like the Treasure Coast. Head to the Stuart Heritage Museum, where the friendly folks here will tell the story of the area, from pioneer days to now. Dine at Osceola Street Café, which is old enough and established enough to be a local’s favorite. Stroll through the Court House Cultural Center and get a sense of what the area was like years ago, along with what it is today. Visit the McLarty Treasure Museum in Vero Beach to learn more about the shipwrecks and their bounty that helped the Treasure Coast get its name.

Art

As eagerly as the area embraces its past, it also creates its own cultural future. The small town of Stuart, which has received recognition from Coastal Living as ‘America’s Happiest Seaside Town’ in 2016, is one such example of the area’s love for the arts. Long established as a gathering place for artists, you’ll find creative works of all kinds here. The next time that you’re in town, take some time to stroll through Geoffrey C. Smith Galleries in Downtown Stuart – his lifelike statues are famous all over town. In fact, his sailfish is the centerpiece of the fountain at Confusion Corner! Local bands play at Rock’n Riverwalk, and creators of all kinds sell art and food at the Stuart Green Market every Sunday. In Fort Pierce, head to the A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery to learn of a truly talented painter in one of the most renowned artist groups, the Highwaymen.

Nature

The Treasure Coast straddles that thin line that allows man and nature to coexist. It’s why you can get some amazing encounters with nature here too. Those who want to take it slow can take a paddleboard tour around the waterways surrounding places such as Jaycee Park and the North Fork St. Lucie River Aquatic Preserve. You can’t go wrong with a day of fishing, either. Take your boat out, or rent a charter, so that you can enjoy the water’s bounty. Or head to Stuart Beach or Hutchinson Island for a relaxing day of soaking up the sun and hunting for seashells.

Activities

The water is a source of life for people here – it’s where they get their food, where they play, and how they live. It makes sense that they’d figure out how to have fun with it too. From the Riverwalk in Stuart, you’re close to nature and society itself. Keep an eye to the water and catch a glimpse of fish jumping, or head to Water Bar and chat with friends over a few drinks. If you’re in Fort Pierce, you can grab fresh produce and listen to live music when you drop by the Fort Pierce Farmer’s Market every Saturday, or look for gold coins along the shores of Pepper Park’s beaches, where the famed Urca de Lima sank and left its treasures for the intrepid to find.

Culture

The number one thing that we hear about the area is how nice the people here are. Far enough from some of South Florida’s major cities, the locals have adopted a laidback approach to life. It means that whenever you go somewhere, whether it’s Downtown Stuart or First Fridays at Fort Pierce, you’re greeted with a smile. It means that you can wear your resort casual clothes for dinner, whether you’re dining at places like The District Table & Bar or 121 Tapas on the Water.
We won’t judge.

The Treasure Coast has such a unique and special quality. Once people come here, they never really want to leave, and who could blame them? When you experience this small town, which curates its history with places such as the House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar, lives in harmony with nature with places such as Oak Hammock Park, and creates its own artistic culture with shows such as the annual Snorkel Corn Summer Classic, you’ll want to live nearby as well.

The lifestyle on the Treasure Coast is pretty sweet.

How can it not be, with the area’s amazing beaches and small town vibe? It’s not just the local produce, or even the locals themselves, that are sweet. The natural area has inspired chocolate and candy confections that are hard to turn down. The local’s at Harbour Ridge have picked out their favorites. Sample them yourself at these three Stuart storefronts.

Kilwins

Established in the early 50’s, Kilwins has quickly become a landmark of Tradition in Port St. Lucie. Residents can’t resist stopping by for a scoop of delicious ice cream or a bite of chocolate candies. It’s impossible to not pick something up when they have chocolate and caramel covered pretzel rods, caramel apples, candy-filled gift baskets, and huge tubs of ice cream on display. Toasted coconut is a local favorite. Even if customers don’t buy something, they stop by to watch fudge being made on-site!

Importico’s Bakery Cafe

Born and raised in South Florida, Importico’s truly has made a name for itself on the Treasure Coast. When customers step inside one of their three locations, they have to stop and marvel at the delicately decorated cakes and pastries. Their new location down Colorado Avenue in Downtown Stuart means that now it’s easier to pick up your baked goods and treats!

Signature Sweets Chocolate

Across the way from Kilwins is another delicious chocolate shop in Downtown Stuart. Stop in here to sample chocolates and ice creams that aren’t found at your usual sweet store. Strolling through their shop reveals flavors such as Champagne Truffle chocolates and Valencia Orange Sorbet. They even have frozen yogurt!

Castronovo Chocolate

Most Treasure Coast residents don’t know that they live alongside a celebrity chocolatier! Denise Castronovo of Castronovo Chocolate has been taking the foodie world by storm with her award winning bars, and has received shout outs from The Washington Post to The New York Times for bars such as white chocolate with lemon salt and lemon oil and chocolate infused honey. She imports cacao beans from Latin American farms that ethically harvest them, and blends her chocolate without soy or emulsifiers. Check out her sweet treats iN Stuart.

Bruno Chocolate Creations

We couldn’t finish this list without mentioning this store! BCC has always worked to be as involved in the community as they possibly can be. Their customer service is just as sweet as their products, with staff offering school tours and samples. If that doesn’t win you over, the chocolate covered orange peels and lollipop gift baskets surely will!

Life along the Treasure Coast is pretty sweet. The area manages the perfect balance between hosting charming cities with tons of activities, and leaving plenty of space for the unique wildlife that calls it home. Mornings and evenings hold brightly colored skies made by the sun. Locals are as warm and welcoming as the weather is. It’s easy to see why people who come to visit tend to stick around.

The Treasure Coast is home to many small businesses, and Downtown Stuart is full of places to grab a good cup of joe.

Whether you like it topped with foam and sugar, or prefer it pitch black, check out some of the best local coffee shops in Stuart.

Stuart Coffee Company

When you’re getting back from the farmer’s market, there’s no better place to grab a latte or an Americano than Stuart Coffee Company. Founders Kevin and Donna Barnes recognized coffee shops as gathering places for people, where they could meet and share ideas. It’s from these coffee shops that Stuart Coffee Company was built from. It’s why the walls here are lined with art that you can buy, why the shelves are filled with games and books from the lending library, and why the café is often filled with people. They also host live music nights and poetry events.

Parrot Coffee Company

From the start, this coffee shop was known for doing things differently. From its tropical décor to the its’ own blend of beans that it sells, this is where the fun-loving gather to connect and exchange ideas, or just hang out. Fun fact: this coffee shop is a branch of a local company that came from Fort Pierce. When you’re buying a cup here, no matter what it is, you’re supporting a local business! It’s no wonder why it made our list of best local coffee shops.

Gilbert’s Coffee Bar

This coffee shop off Sunset Bay Anchorage and Marina may seem unassuming, but they like to let their coffee do the talking here. Specialty offerings such as drip coffees and horchata cold brew blends, alongside their amazing waterfront view, makes this the perfect place to visit with a friend after an early morning run or walk. Gilbert’s Coffee Bar works to make themselves part of the local scene by hosting the area’s rising stars to play for them, and even serving as the meeting place for the local Surfrider Foundation Chapter to protect the cleanliness of the beaches here.

Osceola Street Café

Downtown Stuart’s trendiest café has an alternate identity as one of the best breakfast spots in town. Breakfast doesn’t end until 11:30, so you have plenty of time to enjoy scrambled eggs filled with ham and cheese, pancakes smothered in syrup, and freshly baked bagels topped with cream cheese, jam, lox, or whatever else you want. Its location in the heart of downtown and their wine menu makes this a great Sunday brunching spot.

Ground Floor Farm

Last, but certainly not least, on our list of best local coffee shops is Ground Floor Farm. If you wanted food that was fresher than what they serve at Ground Floor Farm, you would have to go and raise it yourself. Their business model is unique yet ensures that they’re always in stock with the freshest ingredients. What staff doesn’t grow on-site, they get from local businesses, ensuring that they give back to the community that supports them. It’s something to feel good about when you order one of their famous brunch plates, like the Shrimp and Grits made from purple rice grits and Key West shrimp, or slather homemade butter on the café’s famous sourdough bread. Grab a friend for a late breakfast, and then enjoy attending GFF’s many events, including their yoga classes and Open Mic Nights.

If there’s anything that Stuart knows how to do best, it’s adding to the area’s culture. Each of these coffee shops have brought their own way of doing things to Downtown Stuart, from Stuart Coffee Company’s frequent poetry nights to the performance opportunities that Gilbert’s Coffee Bar gives to local musicians. When you throw in the area’s history and beautiful nature, Stuart feels completely unique from every other city in Florida. There is a way to be a part of that culture. Harbour Ridge, located in Palm City on the Florida’s Treasure Coast, is proud to have received the 2018 USAT Tennis Facility of the Year Award.

Each year, the USTA recognizes facilities throughout the country to encourage increasingly high standards for construction and/or renovation.

Harbour Ridge was nominated for this prestigious award by Jessica Agee-Bradshaw, USTA Representative for the Florida Region 6, covering Indian River/Martin/St. Lucie Counties.

Bradshaw states, “This facility has been in the community for decades and was primarily a “resident/members only” club until about three (3) years ago. The facility was completely renovated and a new Tennis Director was put in place. Mr. Fabio Vasconcellos has turned the facility into a thriving sought after place to play tennis. He is a joy to work with and completely supports USTA programs by encouraging his members to participate. He is very proactive seeking out players and supporting the community when approached.”

USTA evaluates nominations based on the facility including quality of each court area and surface, quality of the court enclosure and lighting, overall layout and adaptation to site, accessories and amenities and evidence of good and green maintenance. Nominations are also evaluated on the tennis program including USTA programs, youth tennis programming, other tennis-related programs and important contributions to the game of tennis.

Bradshaw adds, “The tennis community is well served because of the new Harbour Ridge Yacht & Country Club.” A charity tennis event is scheduled for April and a second one for November. The tennis program has been under the direction of world-renowned Peter Burwash International since 1987.

Located on the St. Lucie River, Harbour Ridge is perfectly positioned to take full advantage of its award-winning amenities. Two championship golf courses wind along the river with beautiful views throughout the entire courses. There are certain signs of spring that you just can’t ignore. Songbirds returning home. Flowers beginning to bloom. Spring training season being announced. As American of a tradition as apple pie, spring training lets fans see the new players of the team work their stuff and witness the older members of the team do what they do best. Port St. Lucie has a particularly strong case of spring training fever, thanks to it serving as the home of the New York Mets. They have some big things on their spring training calendar – make sure that you don’t miss a minute.

The New York Mets are set for a busy season. They have 14 home games and 13 away games during spring training, with them playing against the likes of the Boston Red Sox, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Baltimore Orioles. You won’t see matchups like this for a long time!

The New York Mets plan on truly shaking up their roster this year with all kinds of potential additions to their team. Hopefuls such as J.D. Davisshow promise with 42 wins under his belt and a .248 on base percentage for the 2018 season. Tim Tebow has been recently invited to train with the Mets at their major league camp, and is rumored to return to the team, as well. He helped them claim wins for the past two spring seasons, but a broken hand cut his season short in 2018. Fans are excited to watch this sports superstar tear up the baseball diamond!

Spring training is a big deal on the Treasure Coast. That happens when you’re close to some of the best teams in MLB. The people who live here have exposure to seeing some of the newest stuff before anyone else does. Whether you’re here year round or just for the season, attending a spring training game is a surefire winner.

This past October, the Cleveland Clinic and Martin Health Systems announced their agreement to have the Martin Health Systems as a full member of the Cleveland Clinic health system. Martin Health Systems has been recognized in its community for providing care in diverse specialties, ranging from nutrition treatment to stroke care. The health provider has also been known for working to increase its accessibility for residents of the area, such as with the construction of an outpatient medical center on Kanner Highway, or the expansion of the emergency department at Martin Memorial North. From this takeover, the residents of Martin County will receive an exchange of cutting edge information, technology, procedures, and research that will be invested into their overall health.

New Technologies

Martin Health Systems’ takeover by Cleveland Clinic brings the research, quality, and level of care expected from Cleveland Clinic to the shores of South Florida. Patients have had a sample of it earlier this year when Cleveland Clinic and Martin Health Systems entered into a heart and vascular affiliation. This let both health systems share research, information, and protocols with each other. With Cleveland Clinic and Martin Health Systems becoming one, patients will now have access to the most advanced health related technologies and programs.

Same Personalized Care

Cleveland Clinic’s takeover of Martin Health Systems is bringing changes to make patient experiences as quick and as simple as possible. However, there are some features of Martin Health Systems that will remain. Cleveland Clinic recognized the value of the open medical staff model that Martin Health Systems maintains for its medical centers and their patients. With Cleveland Clinic retaining this feature of Martin Health Systems, patients can keep the doctors that they’ve come to know and whom they recognize can treat them best.

This merger has the unique facet of benefitting everyone. Before Martin Health Systems was a part of Cleveland Clinic, patients would have to travel extensive distances to access the Cleveland Clinic’s level of medical technology and information. Now patients can have access to some of the most developed technology and information within the medical industry while being only a few minute’s drive from anywhere within Martin County. With the Cleveland Clinic’s emphasis on access and Martin Health System’s prevalence within the community, residents can take care of their health in a simple and intuitive way that leaves them time to enjoy the best of life’s offerings.
